Connecting with Students at the GRCTC Career Fair
TSPS Chapter 5 was proud to participate in the first-ever GRCTC College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) Fair, a two-day event held December 8-9, 2025 at the Gilbreath‑Reed Career & Technical Center in Garland. The event brought together industry partners, educators, and organizations to help students explore pathways after graduation and learn about high-demand career opportunities.
The GRCTC serves juniors and seniors from all seven high schools within Garland Independent School District, offering specialized Career and Technical Education programs designed to prepare students for success after high school. College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) initiatives are integrated into the district’s everyday culture and supported by state guidelines, higher-education partnerships, and local businesses like TSPS Chapter 5.
During the fair, Chapter members engaged directly with students, shared insights about the land surveying profession, and demonstrated the technology used in the field. This event also marked an exciting milestone for the Chapter: the first student outreach event featuring the TSPS Reality headset. Sponsored by the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors, this shared resource allows students to experience land surveying in an interactive, hands-on way through immersive videos and demonstrations.
We extend our sincere thanks to Carmen Blakey, GISD Director of Career & Technical Education, for the kind invitation and for her continued support of land surveying as a career opportunity for hundreds of students. We also appreciate Peyton Hatch of G4 Geomatic Resources and Allterra for bringing equipment and helping showcase the exciting possibilities within the profession.
Special thanks go to TSPS Chapter 5 Past President Marcos Madrid and current President Chris Bentle for their leadership and efforts in organizing the Chapter’s participation. Their dedication helped ensure a strong and engaging presence at this inaugural event.
