TSPS Chapter 5 Connects with the Community at Oak Cliff Earth Day 2026
TSPS Chapter 5 was proud to participate as a vendor at the April 19 Oak Cliff Earth Day event held at Lake Cliff Park in Dallas. With perfect spring weather setting the tone, the event drew a crowd eager to celebrate sustainability, community, and environmental awareness. As one of nearly 100 vendors and organizations present, Chapter 5 had the opportunity to showcase the land surveying profession to a wide and diverse audience.
Our booth, staffed by Chris Bentle, Marcos Madrid, and Chris Freeman, featured a unique blend of antique and modern surveying instruments alongside historic maps of Dallas County and Oak Cliff dating back to the 1800s. Throughout the day, visitors stopped by to ask questions, explore the equipment, and learn how surveyors play a critical role in shaping and protecting our communities. TSPS Chapter 5 also handed out National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) swag at the booth, generously provided by NSPS Executive Director Tim Burch, giving attendees something to take home and remember the profession by.
Live demonstrations sparked curiosity among attendees of all ages, offering a hands-on look into both the history and future of surveying. In addition to discussing the profession, Chapter 5 highlighted its partnership with The Constellations of Living Memorials and ongoing work documenting and preserving historic cemeteries across Dallas, connecting surveying to broader themes of heritage, land stewardship, and community impact.
The engagement extended beyond the event itself, as the team built meaningful connections that led to several invitations to present to local groups, including a Boy Scout troop and regional pioneer associations. Events like Oak Cliff Earth Day reinforce the value of community outreach, and TSPS Chapter 5 looks forward to continuing to expand awareness, inspire future surveyors, and share the story of the profession across North Texas.
