Remembrance of a Surveyor’s Legacy: James Bartlett “Jim” Gillis
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of James Bartlett “Jim” Gillis. Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose commitment to his family was matched only by his dedication to the land surveying profession.
As an RPLS and Professor of Land Surveying at Dallas College, he inspired and guided countless students with his knowledge and passion. As a leader in geodesy, advanced data collection, and mapping methods, Jim’s expertise influenced surveying practices around the world. His work and leadership have left a lasting legacy that will continue to impact the field of surveying for generations to come.
A proud member of TSPS and TSPS Chapter 2, Jim’s dedication, leadership, and many contributions to the society and profession have left an undeniable mark. We are deeply grateful for the knowledge he shared, the lives he touched, and the example he set. TSPS Chapter 5 would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him as we honor his memory with gratitude and respect.
